PSG’s players have even more motivation ahead of this season’s Champions League final.
According to reports from L’Equipe, the club has promised each player a bonus of €1 million if they manage to win the competition for a second straight year.
PSG faces Arsenal in Saturday’s final in Budapest as Luis Enrique’s squad looks to continue another impressive season for the French champions.
After finally winning the Champions League for the first time last year, PSG now has the chance to pull off something even more historic by defending the trophy. Very few clubs have managed to win Europe’s biggest competition back-to-back, which would make another title even more special for the Paris side.
The reported bonus is also seen as a way to reward the squad for another strong European campaign. PSG has looked more balanced this season, relying less on individual stars and more on the strength of the team as a whole.
Morocco international Achraf Hakimi has been one of PSG’s most consistent players throughout the season and remains one of the key leaders in Luis Enrique’s squad.
The Moroccan right-back has missed the last 4 weeks of action due to a right thigh hamstring tear sustained during the semifinal first leg against Bayern Munich on April 28. But after ramping up individual recovery sessions, he is said to have returned to full collective team training. Hakimi is officially included in the match squad traveling to Budapest for the final.
Beyond the financial reward, another Champions League title, and winning back-to-back titles changed everything for PSG. Instead of just proving they can conquer Europe after years of heartbreak, consecutive European crowns cement the Parisians as a true, undisputed football dynasty.
