Agadir – Morocco and French security services joined forces to investigate a major cannabis trafficking case involving more than 1.2 tonnes of narcotics seized near the Port of Le Havre according to official communications from French judicial authorities and a statement shared by the French Embassy in Morocco.
“Concrete results of operational cooperation between the French police and Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN). The fight against drug trafficking is one of the key pillars of the strengthened exceptional partnership between France and Morocco,” the French embassy in Morocco said.
The operation began on May 18, 2026, when investigators from Le Havre opened a preliminary inquiry into suspected criminal conspiracy linked to aggravated theft.
The investigation was triggered after the inspection of a truck driver found in possession of false license plates and a key to a tractor unit parked near the port.
Authorities noted early signs of organized criminal activity targeting port freight. According to the official press release, “this modus operandi appeared to correspond to that used by criminal organizations involved in the recovery of freight within the port area or its surroundings.”
On the same day, investigators observed the exit of a container from the Port of Le Havre, which was transported by road toward a warehouse in the Val-d’Oise region.
A coordinated operation on May 19 resulted in the arrest of seven individuals. They were detained while “unloading the container or supervising the operation,” according to the prosecutor’s statement.
The subsequent search uncovered a significant quantity of drugs. Authorities reported the seizure of “1,125 kg of herbal cannabis packaged in heat-sealed bags, 30 kg of cannabis pollen, and 78 kg of cannabis resin, concealed in boxes of clothing,” representing “more than 1.2 tonnes of narcotic products.”
