Rabat – Rabat is welcoming world athletics stars, who will compete as part of the 17th Mohammed VI International Meeting on Sunday.
The Royal Moroccan Athletics Federation is organizing the event at the Olympic Sports Complex, serving as the third stop of the Diamond League.
Organizers are promising a strong lineup with several world athletic stars taking part.
The federation emphasized how the Mohammed VI International Meeting serves as a “showcase of Morocco’s organizational expertise and the continued development of athletics in the Kingdom.”
It also aims to boost Morocco’s position as a leading sports destination on both the continental and international stages.
The competition is open to the public free of charge.
The Secretary General of the federation, Mohamed Ghozlane, said in a press conference that stars have chosen to meet once again in Rabat, which “boasts a new sporting landmark built to highly advanced international standards.”
The Moroccan double Olympic and world champion Soufiane El Bakkali also expressed satisfaction with the event, stating that the Mohammed VI International Athletics Meeting enjoys great interest.
He said this competition has achieved global recognition.
Beyond Bakkali, the 17th edition is also bringing headlines, Kenyan Emmanuel Wanyonyi, America’s Quincy Hall, alongside Ryan Crouser, and British athlete Matt Hudson-Smith.
In the women’s events, Ukraine’s Yaroslava Mahuchikh is part of the lineup alongside US’ Katie Moon, Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo, Bahamian Shaunae Miller-Uibo and Jamaican Shericka Jackson.
Several Moroccan athletes will also take part, including Souad Elhaddad, Mohamed Yassine Zerhouni, Yassine Hssine, Anass Essayi, Fouad Messaoudi, Imad Bouchajda, Abdelati El Guesse, Salah Eddine Ben Yazide, Abderrafia Bouassel, Farid El Mostafa, and Mohamed Tindouft.
