Rabat – Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) expects hot weather to continue across several parts of the country at the beginning of this week, with clear differences between inland areas and coastal regions.
Hot conditions will remain over plains west of the Atlas Mountains, the south-east, and the southern provinces. Temperatures are expected to reach between 40°C and 44°C in the far south and south-east.
Temperatures will generally range between 35°C and 40°C in other inland areas, while coastal and mountainous regions will stay relatively milder.
Unstable cloud formations are expected over the High Atlas during the afternoon and evening, which may bring isolated showers or thunderstorms. Low clouds and local fog will also form overnight and early morning along the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts.
Strong winds are also expected in parts of the central and southern coasts, which may cause dust and reduced visibility in some areas.
Relatively hot to hot weather will continue on Tuesday, especially in the south-east, the south, and areas west of the Atlas and inside the Souss region.
Wednesday will also see relatively hot to hot local conditions in the south-east, far south, western plains, and Souss. Coastal fog and low clouds will continue in the early hours of the day, while winds remain strong in coastal and southern areas, with possible dust storms.
A slight drop in temperatures is expected in some coastal and eastern regions, while other areas remain stable.
By the end of the week and the start of next week, hot conditions will persist in the far south and south-east, with continued morning and nighttime coastal fog.
Some unstable cloud activity may develop over the Atlas Mountains and eastern highlands, while temperatures are expected to rise again in northern and central regions.
Morocco experienced an extreme heat wave across many regions in the lead-up to Eid Al Adha, with peak temperatures in inland and southern areas and scattered thunderstorms in parts of the High Atlas.
Following this period, temperatures began to gradually ease, bringing slightly more moderate conditions in several regions, especially along the coasts and in the north and east.
