Rabat – Hot weather is persisting in Morocco, with temperatures ranging between 40 and 43 degrees Celsius in different provinces across the country.

A new weather alert from the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) forecasts the highest temperatures for the provinces of Tata, Es-Semara, Assa-Zag, Boujdour, Oued Ed-Dahab, and Aousserd from Friday to Monday.

Temperatures between 38 and 41 degrees will affect the provinces of Taouante, Settat, El Kelaa Sraghna, Marrakech, Rehmaa, Khmeisset, Fez, Sidi Slimane, Khouribga, Sidi Kacem, Fquih Ben Salah, Meknes, Moulay Yacoub, and Ouezzane.

Local thunderstorms are also forecast, with 15 to 125 millimeters of rain and a risk of hail on Friday from afternoon to 10 p.m. in the provinces of Beni Mellal, Midelt, Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Azilal, and Khenifra.

Morocco continues to experience hot weather and heatwaves, with temperatures exceeding 40 degrees in several provinces.

The Rabat region, in which temperatures do not exceed 36 degrees, witnessed temperatures of nearly 40 degrees earlier this week.

The hot weather in Morocco coincided with the Eid al-Adha holiday.

Last year in June, three Moroccan cities were ranked among the world’s hottest places on earth for one particular day.

Ben Guerir ranked 10th worldwide in data published by the specialized platform Eldorado Weather, with temperatures reaching 46.4 degrees. Kenitra followed in 14th place with 45.8 degrees, while Taroudant closed the trio at 15th, just above the 45-degree mark.

Another data point from Morocco’s DGM said 2024 was the hottest year ever recorded in Morocco.
