Rabat – Moroccan attacking midfielder Othmane Maamma could be on the move this summer, with several European clubs monitoring his situation at Watford.
According to L’Équipe, Benfica, Everton and Crystal Palace are among the clubs interested in signing the 20-year-old Moroccan talent. A top French club has also reportedly entered the race, although its identity remains unknown.
Maamma, who came through the academy at Montpellier, enjoyed a strong rise in profile after being named Best Player of the U20 World Cup with Morocco last year. Despite his performances, he narrowly missed out on Morocco’s final 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Attracting qualities
The 20-year-old player remains highly rated thanks to his explosive playing style, technical quality and attacking creativity. Benfica and Everton are said to have closely studied his profile, while Crystal Palace are interested but reportedly waiting for clarity over their coaching situation before moving forward.
French side Lille had already explored a potential deal during the winter transfer window, attracted by Maamma’s potential development and future resale value.
Under contract with Watford until June 2029, Maamma featured in 25 Championship matches this season, scoring 4 goals and providing one assist.
Because Maamma played in the U20 World Cup, he joined Watford later and had a shorter pre-season preparation. This may have impacted his performances during the season.
With interest growing from the Premier League, Portugal and France, Maamma’s future could become one of the hot transfers to follow during the summer transfer window.
