Rabat – Morocco’s newcomer Ayyoub Bouaddi shared his excitement and pride after making his first appearance in front of Moroccan supporters during the Atlas Lions’ 4-0 victory over Madagascar on Tuesday at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
The friendly match served as one of Morocco’s preparatory games ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Head coach Mohamed Ouahbi used the opportunity to rotate his squad, try new options, and polish his team’s preparations before the tournament begins.
An overwhelming welcome
For Bouaddi, the match marked a special turning point in his young international career. The LOSC Lille midfielder, who recently dedicated his international future to Morocco, experienced his first game wearing the Atlas Lions jersey in front of home fans yesterday in Madagascar’s friendly.
Speaking to reporters after the match, Bouaddi expressed his gratitude for the warm reception he received from supporters.
“I am very happy, very proud, and very pleased. It feels great to be here,” he said. “The stadium is magnificent, and the atmosphere was perfect. Thank you to the Moroccan people. It promises beautiful things for the future.”
A goal in mind
The 18 year-old is among the youngest players selected for Morocco’s World Cup squad and is eager to help Morocco re-make history, but this time with Ayyoub Bouaddi’s name in the heart of it.
“I was very happy. We have an objective to achieve,” Bouaddi added. “We know that Brazil is a very strong team, but we are focusing on our work and our preparation.”
Despite this being his first World Cup, the midfielder did not hide his ambitions for the tournament.
“It is my first World Cup, and I am very proud to represent Morocco at the highest level,” he said. “Our objective is to go as far as possible, reach the final, and win the trophy.”
Choosing Morocco
Bouaddi’s inclusion in the squad comes after months of speculation surrounding his international future. Having previously represented France at youth level, the talented midfielder ultimately chose to play for Morocco after discussions with Ouahbi and the Moroccan Football Federation.
Following three consecutive friendly victories under the management of the new coach Mohamed Ouahbi, the Atlas Lions will continue their preparations before departing for the United States on Wednesday. The squad will have their last warm-up match against Norway in New Jersey on June 7.
Morocco will begin their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign against Brazil on June 13 before facing Scotland and Haiti in the group stage.
