Rabat – French club Auxerre have officially announced the end of Moroccan midfielder Oussama El Azzouzi’s loan spell, confirming his return to Bologna for the upcoming campaign.
The 25-year-old player joined AJ Auxerre in August 2025, arriving on a season-long loan deal from Serie A side Bologna.
The French club secured the defensive midfielder to bolster their central options for the 2025-26 Ligue 1 campaign, with the agreement lasting until the end of the football season.
The Morocco international made 11 appearances in Ligue 1 during his loan spell, providing defensive stability while scoring one goal for the French club, which came in a 3-1 victory against FC Metz.
While injury troubles limited El Azzouzi’s playing time this season, the Moroccan midfielder recovered in time to feature in several of the team’s final games.
With his loan now over, El Azzouzi returns to Bologna to evaluate his options for the summer transfer window, leaving his future open to either staying with the Serie A side or moving on.
Auxerre expressed their gratitude to the Moroccan midfielder for his efforts during his loan spell and wished him success as he returns to Italy for the next stage of his career.
”Thank you Oussama… Loaned by Bologna this season, the Moroccan midfielder returns to Italy at the end of it,” the French club stated.
”Ouss’, the entire club thanks you and wishes you the best for the future.”
The midfielder’s return to Italy comes at an interesting time for Bologna, who are reshaping their squad for the upcoming Serie A campaign after competing in Europe.
El Azzouzi will have to convince the coaching staff during pre-season if he hopes to secure a regular starting spot.
