Casablanca — Ryanair has resumed its direct service between Alicante and Fez, restoring a seasonal route that will operate throughout the summer travel period until the end of September.
The Irish low-cost airline restarted the connection on June 2, operating flights between Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport and Fez-Saïss Airport. The service, flight FR9978, connects the two cities in under an hour and a half, offering travelers a direct alternative during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
The route gives Fez a distinct place in Ryanair’s summer network from Alicante. While many seasonal destinations focus on beach tourism, Fez is known for its cultural and historical appeal. The city is home to one of the world’s oldest medinas and is widely recognized for its architectural heritage, traditional markets, and historic landmarks.
For Spanish travelers, the route provides direct access to one of Morocco’s oldest urban centers without the need to transit through larger gateways such as Casablanca, Marrakech, or Tangier.
The service is also expected to be popular among members of the Moroccan community living in southeastern Spain, particularly in the provinces of Alicante and Murcia. Summer is traditionally a peak period for travel between Spain and Morocco as many families return home for holidays and family visits.
The return of the Alicante–Fez route comes as Morocco continues to post strong tourism figures. The country welcomed 7.7 million tourists during the first five months of 2026, according to official data released this week. Earlier figures showed Morocco received 4.3 million visitors in the first quarter alone, up 7% compared with the same period a year earlier, reflecting continued growth in arrivals across the country.
