Rabat – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) says Morocco enter the 2026 FIFA World Cup with high ambitions, inspired by their historic run in Qatar four years ago.
CAF stressed that the Atlas Lions are no longer seen as outsiders. Their semi‑final finish in 2022 changed perceptions, proving that African teams can compete at the highest level.
Morocco’s rise in the FIFA rankings has placed them among the world’s elite, earning respect across international football.
Morocco will compete in Group C alongside Brazil, Scotland, and Haiti. Their campaign begins with a tough opener against Brazil on June 13, a match seen as an early test of their ambitions.
The squad blends experienced names with young talent, aiming to build on the foundation laid in Qatar.
Goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, one of the stars of the 2022 tournament, underlined that Morocco still have the quality and mentality that carried them to the semi‑finals.
“We believe in ourselves,” he said, adding that the team’s mix of skill and spirit gives them confidence to face the strongest opponents.
His teammate, goalkeeper Reda Tagnaouti, pointed to the unity inside the squad, describing team spirit as a key factor behind their past success.
CAF noted that Morocco’s achievement in Qatar was not a one‑off. It marked a turning point for African football, showing that teams from the continent can reach advanced stages of the World Cup.
The Atlas Lions now hope to repeat that image, relying on defensive strength, collective character, and the experience of their core players.
