Casablanca — 24 people lost their lives and 2,861 others were injured, including 118 seriously, in traffic accidents recorded in Morocco’s urban areas between June 1 and June 7, according to figures released by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
A total of 2,088 road accidents were reported during the week. Police said the main causes included failure to yield the right of way, speeding, driver inattention, failure to maintain a safe distance, and dangerous maneuvers.
Other factors cited by authorities were failure to comply with traffic signs and stop signals, improper overtaking, driving on the wrong side of the road, and driving under the influence.
The latest weekly figures reflect the continued toll of road accidents in the country’s urban centers, where thousands of motorists travel daily.
Alongside the accident statistics, police also carried out extensive traffic enforcement operations. Thousands of traffic violations were recorded nationwide during the same period. Authorities issued fines, prepared official reports for a range of offenses, and impounded hundreds of vehicles as part of routine road safety measures.
The weekly road safety bulletin is regularly published by the DGSN to track accident trends and traffic violations across Morocco. Authorities continue to call on drivers to respect traffic regulations and exercise greater caution behind the wheel in an effort to reduce the number of deaths and injuries on the country’s roads.

The figures come as Morocco enters the peak summer travel season, when road traffic typically increases as families begin traveling for holidays.
While no recent Morocco-specific study has quantified the seasonal effect, international research continues to link periods of heavier mobility to higher accident risks. The OECD’s 2025 Road Safety Annual Report notes that road traffic injuries remain a major global challenge despite improvements in many countries.
