Casablanca — Morocco’s Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance (DGSN), Abdellatif Hammouchi, received Brazil’s Ambassador to Morocco, Alexander Kido Lopez Parola, on Thursday at the DGSN’s new headquarters in Rabat.
The two officials discussed existing cooperation between Morocco and Brazil in several security fields of shared interest. Talks focused on border security, counterterrorism efforts, and the fight against transnational crime.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to assess the current level of bilateral security cooperation and explore ways to strengthen coordination between the two countries. According to the released information, both sides discussed a shared strategic vision to expand cooperation in police training, combat irregular migration networks, and monitor and counter the activities of terrorist organizations operating in the Sahel-Sahara region.
The discussions took place as Morocco and Brazil continued implementing a memorandum of understanding signed in 2024 between Hammouchi and the Director General of the Brazilian Federal Police. The agreement was designed to establish and develop cooperation channels between Moroccan and Brazilian security services.
The memorandum covers cooperation in combating organized crime across borders, including efforts to prevent and fight drug trafficking, the illegal trade of psychotropic substances, terrorism, human trafficking and migrant smuggling. It also includes cooperation against the illicit trafficking of firearms, ammunition and explosives, as well as money laundering, document forgery and cybercrime.
The meeting follows broader efforts by Morocco’s security institutions to maintain partnerships with friendly nations. Moroccan authorities said these partnerships aim to improve coordination in addressing emerging criminal and terrorist threats while strengthening operational information exchange and specialized police training programs.
