Agadir – The Court in Benslimane has sentenced three individuals to prison terms in a case involving a minor that drew widespread public outrage after a video circulated on social media showing a child being pressured to consume alcohol.
The verdicts were announced today by the child protection organization Matqich Waldi (“Don’t Touch My Child”), which followed the case and took part in the legal proceedings in support of the child victim.
In its statement, the organization said it “announces to the public and to all those concerned with child protection issues that, as part of its monitoring and support of the case involving the minor child in Benslimane, the Court of First Instance in Benslimane issued its verdicts today, Monday, June 15, convicting those involved in the case.”
The court handed down prison sentences of four years for the first defendant, three years for the second, and two and a half years for the third, bringing the total penalties in the case to nine and a half years.
The case originated after a video widely shared on social media showed several individuals pressuring a minor to drink an alcoholic beverage, triggering strong public reaction and calls for accountability.
Following the circulation of the footage, authorities launched an investigation that led to the identification and arrest of the suspects, who were subsequently brought before the Benslimane court.
According to “Matqich Waldi,” the organization played an active role in the proceedings to defend the rights of the child victim.
It stated that it was officially represented by lawyer Hicham Hartoun, a member of the Casablanca Bar Association, who “vigorously advocated for the protection of the minor and for holding the perpetrators accountable.”
