Rabat – The Egyptian national football team has confirmed a change in its travel plans ahead of its upcoming World Cup fixtures, after security authorities refused their request to stay in Seattle.
According to Egypt team director Ibrahim Hassan, the team had planned to move directly to Seattle after their match against New Zealand in Canada to avoid extra travel and reduce player fatigue.Â
However, that request was denied for security reasons, forcing the squad to return instead to Spokane, Washington.
The decision means the team will continue its preparations while based in Spokane, despite concerns about the additional travel ahead of their next game.
Earlier, Egypt produced a strong performance in Vancouver, where they defeated the New Zealand national football team 3-1. The win was historic for Egypt, as it marked their first-ever victory in a World Cup match. The players celebrated enthusiastically after the final whistle.
Egypt will next face Iran’s national football team on June 27 in Seattle. The match is expected to be an important test as the team continues its World Cup campaign.
The Pharaohs currently lead Group G with four points, followed by Iran, Belgium, and New Zealand, respectively.
The US has taken a strict approach to where teams can stay and how they move between host cities during the tournament. Security authorities have been closely involved in approving hotel locations and travel plans, including when teams request changes to reduce travel or improve preparation conditions.
Officials say these measures are meant to ensure safety and smooth organization across a competition spread over multiple cities. However, they have also led to adjustments in team logistics, with some squads having to change plans even when they prefer to stay closer to match venues to avoid extra travel and fatigue.
