Rabat – Jordan’s head coach, Jamal Sellami, drew attention to a rare moment of success after his team’s 3-1 loss to Argentina, stating that his side stands alone as the only team in this 2026 FIFA World Cup to score against the defending champions from open play.
Jordan faced Argentina on Sunday in the final round of Group 10. The result confirmed Argentina’s dominance, yet Sellami chose to focus on what his team managed to achieve against one of football’s most complete sides.
“Argentina is among the strongest teams in the world. It has top-level players in every position,” he said after the match.
Sellami underlined the value of his team’s goal, which did not come from a set piece or penalty. “We are the only team in this World Cup to score against them from open play. That says a lot about how we approached the game,” he said.
Jordan did not control the match, but it did not collapse either. The team found space, took its chance, and left a mark that no other side has managed so far in the tournament.
Argentina secured the win with authority and continues its campaign as one of the main contenders for the title. Jordan, on the other hand, exits the competition, yet carries a detail that sets its performance apart from others who faced the same opponent.
For Sellami, that detail matters since it reflects a team that did not simply absorb pressure but tried to respond in its own way against a global powerhouse.
