Rabat – Moroccan police have arrested a 28-year-old French-Moroccan man who was wanted internationally by French authorities for a murder case.
The suspect was arrested on Monday in the northern city of Al Hoceima during a security operation carried out by regional police with support from Morocco’s General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST).
A check through the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) database showed that the man was the subject of a Red Notice issued at the request of the National Central Bureau in Paris.
French judicial authorities are seeking to enforce a court sentence against the suspect linked to a case involving intentional homicide with a firearm. According to the available information, the crime was committed as part of criminal gang activities.
Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect allegedly shot and killed a person with an automatic weapon in a public street in Paris in July 2019.
Following his arrest, the suspect was placed in police custody under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office. Moroccan authorities have opened a judicial investigation into the offenses attributed to him in the official complaint submitted by the French authorities.
The investigation will follow the provisions of Moroccan law, taking into account the suspect’s Moroccan nationality. Under national legislation, Moroccan citizens are subject to specific legal procedures when facing requests linked to foreign criminal cases.
The arrest reflects the ongoing security cooperation between Morocco and France, as well as Morocco’s continued collaboration with Interpol in tracking and apprehending individuals wanted on international arrest warrants.
