Rabat – Morocco’s Ministry of Health has urged citizens to pay special attention to children, the elderly, pregnant women, and people with chronic illnesses during the ongoing heatwaves.
The ministry urged citizens to take preventive measures, asking them to avoid direct exposure to the sun. It also advised the public to drink water regularly and in sufficient quantities, especially those who are exposed to the sun due to their work or outdoor physical activities.
The ministry urged citizens to avoid going outdoors during the hottest hours of the day, particularly between noon and 4 p.m., urging them to stay in cool or well-ventilated places.
It also called on citizens to wear light clothing and avoid physical exertion.
The ministry said families and relatives should check on elderly or sick individuals and ensure they are hydrated.
In addition, the statement stressed that anyone experiencing symptoms such as higher fever, unusual fatigue, dizziness, headaches, intense thirst, muscle cramps, confusion, unusual drowsiness, redness or restlessness should seek medical attention immediately at the nearest healthcare facility to receive appropriate treatment.
The ministry pledged a national heatwave response plan, including strengthening health surveillance and monitoring to ensure the continuity of healthcare services and to reinforce emergency departments to secure medicine supplies and intensify public awareness and information.
This comes as Morocco is experiencing a heatwave with temperatures ranging between 43 and 46 degrees Celsius in several provinces across the country.
According to the latest weather notice, the heatwave will also affect regions that are usually cooler than southern provinces, including Rabat, with forecasts of 38 and 41 degrees throughout the week.
