Casablanca – Atletico Madrid are preparing an opening bid for Tottenham defender Cristian Romero, with the Argentine international keen on a move to Spain.
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Atletico Madrid are now preparing to take action to recruit Cristian Romero, a key player for Tottenham and the Argentinian national team.
The Spurs defender has become one of Diego Simeone’s top priorities, with Atletico Madrid’s
management said to be currently preparing an initial offer estimated at €30 million.
Discussions between both parties are ongoing, Atletico Madrid are expected to submit their offer in the coming days. The Spanish side sees Romero as the ideal signing to strengthen their backline ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Inter Milan has also been closely monitoring the player and has been interested in his situation for several weeks.
However, Atletico Madrid holds a significant advantage in this matter. According to Romano, Cristian Romero would prefer a move to La Liga rather than another league.
The case has one important peculiarity: Cristian Romero reportedly has a clause allowing him to join Atletico Madrid for a fee of €40 million.
However, Atletico Madrid do not wish to activate this clause immediately. The club prefers to try to negotiate a lower offer before considering another bid.
If Tottenham rejects the first proposal, discussions could quickly move towards an amount closer to the Spurs demands.
