Rabat – Morocco’s National Railway Office (ONCF) has launched a new phase of the Casablanca Regional Express Network (RER) project by opening two tenders for the construction of nine new railway stations worth a combined MAD 400 million (approximately $40 million).
The project is part of Morocco’s broader efforts to improve urban and suburban rail transport while supporting the country’s growing infrastructure needs.
According to the tender documents, the work has been divided into two lots.
The first contract, estimated at around MAD 180 million, covers the construction of four stations in Mohammedia Facultés, Zenata Industrielle, Sidi Bernoussi, and Ain Sebaa.
The second contract, worth approximately MAD 220 million, includes five stations in Hay Mohammadi, Mers Sultan, Casablanca Oasis, Sidi Maarouf, and Nouaceur New City.
The new stations form part of the Casablanca Regional Express Network, which aims to provide faster and more efficient rail transport between residential areas, business districts, and key public services across the Casablanca-Settat region.
The network will also strengthen rail connections between Casablanca, Mohammedia, Benslimane, and Nouaceur.
Once completed, the RER system is expected to include three railway lines stretching about 92 kilometers and serving 18 stations, including the newly planned ones.
The network will improve access to major strategic locations, including Mohammed V International Airport and the future Hassan II Grand Stadium in Benslimane, a contender to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup final.
ONCF also plans to increase train frequency, with trains running every 15 minutes on some sections of the network. The goal is to make daily commuting easier while reducing road congestion in the Casablanca metropolitan area.
The railway operator estimates that the RER network will serve around 180,000 passengers per day by 2030, making it one of Morocco’s largest public transport projects.
The project will also use advanced digital engineering standards, including Building Information Modeling (BIM), a technology that allows engineers to create and manage detailed digital models throughout the construction process.
Construction companies will also be required to provide digital records of completed works and develop prototype models for architectural and technical components to help ensure quality and simplify future maintenance.
