Agadir – Morocco’s Public Prosecution has confirmed that Moroccan police arrested journalist Ali Lmrabet at Tangier Airport based on multiple outstanding arrest warrants related to alleged criminal offenses involving online publications.
In a statement, the Prosecutor at the Casablanca Misdemeanor Court identified the journalist by his initials, stating that the arrest followed the circulation of information on social media regarding the case.
According to the prosecutor, “A.M” was wanted in connection with allegations that he published a series of digital posts containing defamatory and insulting remarks targeting individuals and institutions, as well as statements deemed offensive toward bodies governed by law.
The Public Prosecution said it ordered the suspect’s transfer to the headquarters of the National Judicial Police Brigade (BNPJ) in Casablanca, which has been tasked with conducting the investigation.
Authorities placed the suspect in police custody to facilitate the investigation under the supervision of the Public Prosecution.
The prosecutor stressed that the investigation is being carried out in full compliance with the procedural guarantees provided by Moroccan law, including the presumption of innocence.
The statement said investigators will question the suspect regarding the allegations before the case is referred back to the Public Prosecution.
Once the investigation is completed, the suspect will be brought before the Prosecutor, who will determine the appropriate legal measures based on the findings of the inquiry.
