The new Chelsea FC head coach, Xabi Alonso, confirmed that Alejandro Garnacho’s future lies away from the London club.
During his first press conference with the Blues, Alonso revealed that the winger is not in his plans, has missed the start of pre-season, and that the club’s sporting directors are actively negotiating a transfer.
Following an overwhelming season with the Blues and less than one year after his £40 million (MAD 499.4 million) transfer from Manchester United, Garnacho now does not fit with the Blues’ plans anymore.
“Several clubs are interested in him,” Alonso stated. AS Roma is among those interested in signing the winger. However, negotiations are reportedly continuing as Chelsea’s asking price remains a major obstacle for the Roman club.
“Hopefully it finishes in the best possible way for everyone,” Alonso added.
The new coach also expressed his honor of managing the Blues, saying he aims to build a strong, competitive, passionate mindset to fight for European qualification rather than focus on trophy targets for his first season.
“We need to have hunger. We need to have the passion for the game. We need to want to improve. The Premier League is such a competitive competition, and for that, we need to prepare ourselves,” Alsono added.
“We need to be really determined in details, really strong on our basics, and how we want to play. We will have time for that. But those are the most important pillars in our game,” he further explained.
The Spanish coach also confirmed that he has spoken with Chelsea captain Enzo Fernandez but declined to reveal the details of their conversation.
“Yes, we have spoken. But as you can imagine, what we have spoken about remains private,’ he said.
Asked about whether he wants Fernandez to remain at Chelsea, Also replied simply: “Yes.”
From his statements, we can see the new Chelsea boss’s excitement and passion for the London club. Alonso is confident and determined to build the mentality needed for the Blues to get their spark back after a very tiring season.
