Spain Allocates €500,000 for Migrant Sexual Health Services in Morocco

Marrakech – Spain’s Agency for International Development Cooperation, known as AECID, has registered a subsidy of nearly €500,000 for a project in Morocco. The grant targets the “reinforcement of access to sexual and reproductive health care for migrants in Morocco,” according to public administration records.

The Spanish outlet The Objective first reported the subsidy on Saturday, noting that the grant was formalized on June 24 and registered with Spain’s Treasury on July 9. It is classified as a cash grant without consideration, issued directly by AECID.

The designated recipient is the Moroccan Association for Family Planning, known by its French acronym AMPF. The organization is a private entity that runs programs related to sexual and reproductive health across Morocco. Its activities include services for migrants, family planning initiatives, health education, and reproductive rights advocacy.

The subsidy amount appears divided into two separate line items. Together, they reach a figure close to €500,000. The documentation does not explain the rationale behind the split.

The project’s stated purpose is to strengthen migrant access to sexual and reproductive health care in Morocco. However, the available public records do not specify the concrete profile of the intended beneficiaries. It remains unclear whether the program targets sub-Saharan migrants transiting through Morocco, Moroccan nationals planning to emigrate, or both.

The AMPF was founded in 1971 and recognized as a public utility organization in 1972. It is a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization and a member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF). It also holds consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

The association operates under the honorary presidency of Princess Lalla Meryem and the national presidency of Khadija El Ghalemi. It runs a network of local branches across several regions of Morocco, with a professional staff supported by volunteers and youth activists. Among its programs is one focused on providing services to migrants passing through Morocco on their way to other destinations.
