FIFA has finally cleared up the confusion surrounding the half-time interval for Sunday’s 2026 World Cup final between Spain and Argentina at MetLife Stadium, saying it will not exceed 17 minutes, just two minutes longer than the standard half-time interval.
FIFA informed the Spanish and Argentine Football Federations of the change. Of the 17 minutes, 11 minutes are dedicated to musical performances by Shakira, Madonna, and Justin Bieber. This is a shorter period than initially planned. Multiple reports stated that with this number of performances, the half-time break would last longer than 30 minutes.
However, FIFA clarified that the half-time interval will be only two minutes longer than in normal matches. The remaining time, estimated at 6 minutes, will be used for stage set up and dismantling t, as well as pitch maintenance, including watering.
Meanwhile, what remains unchanged are the hydration breaks, which have become a regular feature in this World Cup due to the ongoing heatwave.
