Rabat – Morocco is sixth in the latest FIFA Men’s World Ranking following their run to the quarterfinals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, cementing their status as Africa’s and the Arab world’s highest ranked national team.
The Atlas Lions sit sixth with 1,803.99 ranking points, less than one point behind fifth-placed Brazil, according to FIFA’s updated rankings released after the conclusion of the World Cup.
The rise follows Morocco’s impressive World Cup campaign, where they reached the last eight and produced a series of strong performances against some of the tournament’s top-ranked nations.
Morocco entered the tournament ranked seventh in the world with 1,755 points in FIFA’s June rankings. Their World Cup performances earned them an additional 48.99 points, enough to move up one place in the global standings.
The latest rankings also reaffirm Morocco’s dominance on the African continent. The Atlas Lions remain the highest-ranked African side, ahead of Senegal, who sit 18th globally, followed by Egypt (24th), Nigeria (26th), Algeria (29th) and Ivory Coast (31st).
They also continue to lead the Arab rankings, staying ahead of Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar.
At the top of the global standings, Spain moved into first place after winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup, overtaking Argentina, which dropped to second following their defeat in the final. France ranks third, followed by England in fourth, while Brazil remains fifth, narrowly ahead of Morocco.
The latest rankings continue Morocco’s steady rise in world football and reflect the progress the national team has made in recent years under a long-term development project that has established the Atlas Lions among the world’s elite.
