RABAT –Morocco has sharply expanded its footprint in Germany’s palm date market, despite Germany being one of the world’s largest importers of the fruit, according to EastFruit.
Between July 2025 and May 2026, Germany imported 714 tons of Moroccan palm dates worth more than €4.2 million (MAD 45 million). The volume was 22 times higher than total shipments recorded during the 2024/25 season and more than six times the combined exports of the previous five seasons.
The latest figures continue a strong upward trend in Morocco’s date trade with Germany. The country exported over $5 billion to Germany in 2025, driven primarily by manufactured cars, automotive components, electric wiring, textiles, and agricultural goods.
Agricultural exports to Germany have surged recently, with strong growth in citrus fruits, cucumbers, and sweet corn.
Morocco’s export season typically peaks during the months leading up to Ramadan, when demand for dates rises significantly among Muslim communities in Europe. However, exports have increasingly remained stable throughout the year as dates gain popularity among consumers seeking natural and nutritious food products.
The German market remains one of Europe’s largest importers of dates, sourcing supplies from several producing countries. Morocco has continued to increase its market share thanks to improved production, higher quality standards, and expanding commercial ties with European buyers.
The performance also reflects the resilience of Morocco’s date sector despite climate-related challenges affecting palm cultivation in some producing regions. Investments in modern farming techniques and post-harvest processing have helped maintain export competitiveness.
