Casablanca – France is expected to name Zinedine Zidane as the new head coach of its national football team next week, French outlet L’Equipe reported.
The report says the French Football Federation (FFF) is preparing to officially unveil the former Real Madrid manager on Tuesday, bringing an end to months of speculation over who would succeed Didier Deschamps.
According to the French newspaper, the final details surrounding Zidane’s appointment are being completed, with the announcement expected to mark the start of a new chapter with Les Bleus.
Zidane would take over from Deschamps, who leaves the role after one of the most successful managerial spells in French football history.
During his tenure, Deschamps guided France to the 2018 FIFA World Cup title and another World Cup final appearance in 2022, cementing his place among the country’s most accomplished coaches.
France’s latest World Cup campaign ended in disappointment after a 2-0 semi-final defeat to Spain, bringing Deschamps’ time in charge to a close.
Should the appointment be confirmed, Zidane would return to management for the first time since leaving Real Madrid in 2021.
The former France captain enjoyed remarkable success at the Spanish club, leading Real Madrid to three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles between 2016 and 2018, alongside two La Liga trophies, two FIFA Club World Cups, and several other domestic and international honors.
His expected arrival has generated significant excitement in France, where many supporters have long viewed him as the natural successor to Deschamps.
