Casablanca – Saturday’s third-place game between France and England is expected to mark the final match of Didier Deschamps tenure in charge of Les Bleus. But behind the scenes, everything is already in place for the appointment of Zinedine Zidane.
After no less than 14 years at the helm of Les Bleus, Didier Deschamps, in charge since Euro 2012, is preparing to bow out. According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Zidane will indeed be the new French national team coach. The decision had already been finalized, the journalist said. The former captain of Les Bleus is expected to lead the French team in the Nations League, Euro 2028, and the 2030 World Cup.
The former French national team legend is expected to receive €300,000 per month, excluding bonuses, a salary that could reach €450,000 per month with the various bonuses included.
The 54-year-old World Cup (1998) and European Cup (2000) winner, who has been out of management since his second spell at Real Madrid (2019-2021), has long had his sights on taking the reins of Les Bleus.
According to RMC Sport, Zidane intends to shatter the habits established over the past 14 years by implementing a completely new coaching structure. His idea is to rely on a large staff, which could include more than 25 people, a first in the history of the French national team. This choice would represent a significant investment for the Federation, of course, but it demonstrates Zidane’s determination to leave nothing to chance.
