Rabat – Argentine fans have initiated a petition for a replay of the World Cup final after their team lost to Spain 1-0 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The petition has already gathered over 61,000 signatures.Ā
The petition on change.org urges FIFA to review the Argentina vs. Spain match, as Albiceleste fans believe it was a corrupt World Cup final.
Gisela SĆ”nchez is the supporter who initiated the petition questioning the refereeās decisions during the final.Ā
āThe recent final between Argentina and Spain was tarnished by the controversial and corrupt performance of the referee who, according to video evidence, was bought to influence the matchās outcome,ā SĆ”nchez writes.
Despite the lack of verifiable evidence to back up their claim, fans asked FIFA to review incidents they believe showed the refereeās bias against Argentina.Ā Several poor refereeing decisions significantly influenced the match’s outcome, they argued.
Change.org features various, diametrically opposed petitions. Some call for FIFA to ban Argentina from future tournaments, while others seek a complete ban from future World Cups, with over 29 million signatures on those petitions.
A similar situation occurred previously when Spain defeated France in the semifinals. Following that match, French fans gathered over 82,000 signatures to request a replay, but ultimately, the result remained unchanged.
Petitions on platforms like change.org do not have any official power and cannot compel FIFA to change the results of a sanctioned event.
A match can only be replayed in extraordinary situations defined by the sportās rules or by a decision from the appropriate governing authorities.
