Meknes – Luka Modric has officially extended his stay at AC Milan, committing to the Rossoneri for the 2026-27 season. The former Ballon d’Or winner signed a new one-year contract, ensuring he will wear the number 14 shirt for another year at the San Siro.
“AC Milan is pleased to announce that Luka Modrić has signed a contract for a further season, until 30 June 2027,” the club announced on Thursday.
“A key figure in the Rossoneri midfield since his arrival, Luka has brought his experience and quality to the service of the team, both on and off the pitch, with humility and great passion.”Â
The Croatian midfielder moved to Milan last summer as a free agent following his departure from Real Madrid. His original contract was a one-year deal that included an option for a second season, which the club has now chosen to activate.
After ending his 13-year stay at Real Madrid, Modric scored two goals in 37 appearances during his debut season with AC Milan, helping the club finish fifth in Serie A alongside a last-16 exit in the Coppa Italia.
“I am thrilled to stay at AC Milan, where you made me feel welcomed and loved from the very first day,” Modric said after the announcement.
“After a season below our expectations, the desire to bounce back is immense. A new season and a new challenge await us – a project I believe in and that motivates me.”
Looking ahead to the upcoming season, the Croatian playmaker underlined his commitment to the supporters and the club.
“I’m ready to continue to give everything again for this shirt and I’m so proud to keep wearing these colours. Can’t wait to return to San Siro and feel your roar,” he added.
During his time with Real Madrid, the former Ballon d’Or recipient won four La Liga championships and six Champions League titles.Â
Prior to his move to Spain, the midfielder spent four seasons in North London, playing 160 games for Tottenham Hotspur.
This season, the midfielder will work under new head coach Ruben Amorim. The former Manchester United manager took over at the San Siro in June after Massimiliano Allegri was dismissed.
