Rabat — The Egyptian Embassy in Morocco held a reception on Thursday to mark Egypt’s National Day, commemorating the 74th anniversary of the country’s July 23 Revolution.
Senior Moroccan officials, foreign diplomats, members of the Egyptian community, and Moroccan guests attended the event, which blended diplomacy with culture in a celebration of the historic bond between Cairo and Rabat.
The event was held under the patronage of Egypt’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, through its Sector of Cultural Affairs and Missions, in coordination with the Egyptian National Commission for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO).
Minister Karim Zeidane, Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of Investment and Public Policy Evaluation, attended as guest of honor, joined by several Moroccan government officials, foreign ambassadors, and members of the diplomatic corps based in the capital.
The celebration reflected the weight both countries continue to place on their bilateral relationship, which spans political, economic, and cultural cooperation.
In his remarks, Egypt’s Ambassador to Morocco, Ahmed Nihad Abdel-Latif, spoke of Cairo’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Rabat across multiple sectors, describing the occasion as more than ceremonial.
The ambassador emphasized that the event reflects decades of partnership and looks ahead to what comes next.
Speaking to Morocco World News (MWN), Ambassador Abdel-Latif said: “We are very delighted with the privileged relation with Morocco. Morocco is a very close country to Egypt.”
Minister Zeidane, for his part, stressed the enduring fraternal bond between the two countries in his own address, noting that the relationship continues to deepen in ways that reflect a shared commitment to bilateral partnership, a sentiment echoed throughout the evening by other officials in attendance.
On the sidelines of the event, Mohamed Abdel-Fattah Shalabi, head of the Egyptian Cultural Center in Rabat, met with Egyptian students studying in Morocco, part of the center’s ongoing efforts to support their academic progress and maintain close ties with the community abroad.
The celebration was rounded out with a cultural program featuring classic performances of Umm Kulthum’s music, transporting guests through some of the most beloved works in the Arab musical canon.
Alongside the performances, organizers laid out a spread of traditional Egyptian dishes that lent the gathering an authentic touch, capturing the depth of the cultural ties binding Egypt and Morocco.
Naima Badawi, president of the Association Cultures Without Borders, commended the longstanding friendship between Morocco and Egypt as she attended the reception.
“I am very happy to be here among the ambassadors, officials, and distinguished guests,” she said, adding that she has maintained close ties with Egypt for many years through numerous cultural events organized in the country.
On Thursday, King Mohammed VI sent a congratulatory message to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sissi, extending his warm congratulations and sincere wishes for continued progress and prosperity for the brotherly Egyptian people.
In the message marking Egypt’s National Day, the King also expressed his appreciation for “the strong bonds of brotherhood and active solidarity that unite the Moroccan and Egyptian peoples.”
He reaffirmed his determination to continue working closely with the Egyptian president to further strengthen these relations and enhance constructive cooperation between the two brotherly countries across various fields.
