Rabat– Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has issued an orange-level weather alert warning of an intense heatwave and unstable weather conditions expected to affect several provinces across the Kingdom from Thursday through Saturday.
According to the national weather agency, temperatures are forecast to reach between 45°C and 47°C in the southern provinces of Oued Ed-Dahab, Boujdour, Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, Taroudant, Tata, Errachidia, and Aousserd from Thursday to Saturday.
A second group of provinces is expected to experience temperatures ranging from 42°C to 45°C during the same period. These include Fquih Ben Salah, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Beni Mellal, Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, Marrakech, Rehamna, Youssoufia, Khénifra, Taounate, Ouezzane, Meknès, Fès, Moulay Yacoub, Sidi Kacem, Khouribga, Settat, and Chichaoua.
Meanwhile, Laayoune, Tarfaya, Guelmim, and Tan-Tan are expected to see temperatures between 42°C and 45°C from Thursday to Friday, while Essaouira, Tiznit, and Sidi Ifni will experience temperatures ranging from 39°C to 42°C over the same period.
The heatwave is also forecast to expand from Friday to Saturday to include Sidi Slimane, Benslimane, Khémisset, Safi, Chtouka-Ait Baha, Sidi Bennour, Guercif, and Taza, where temperatures are expected to range between 40°C and 45°C.
In addition to the extreme heat, the DGM warned of thunderstorms accompanied by hail and strong wind gusts on Thursday between 2:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. in the provinces of Khenifra, Figuig, Rehamna, and Khouribga.
The meteorological authority urged residents in the affected areas to remain vigilant, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours, stay hydrated, and follow official weather updates as the heatwave and stormy conditions persist.
