Rabat – Brazilian midfielder Casemiro hailed Lionel Messi as “the God of Football” after completing his move to Inter Miami, where he is set to play alongside the Argentine superstar for the first time in his career.
Speaking at his unveiling press conference on Thursday, the former Real Madrid player shared his excitement about playing alongside Messi.
“The truth is, all players imagine playing with the best of all time. I am living the dream of playing with Messi,” said Casemiro. “I am here for him and to help him,” he added.
Casemiro admitted that the chance to play alongside Lionel Messi played a major role in his decision to make the move to Inter Miami, describing him as the “God of football”.
“There were many clubs that I could have joined, but I wanted to play with him; he is the God of football,” stressed the 34-year-old.
Casemiro joined Inter Miami on a contract that runs through the 2027 MLS season, with an option to extend until June 2029.
The move came after Casemiro bid an emotional farewell to Manchester United. His final home appearance at Old Trafford was against Nottingham Forest on 17 May, marking the end of a memorable spell with the club.
Casemiro left Manchester United after another strong season in which he remained one of the team’s most reliable performers. The Brazilian featured in 34 matches, starting 33 of them, and continued to play a key role in the Red Devils’ midfield. Since arriving from Real Madrid in 2022, he has added valuable experience and helped the club lift the League Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.
