Rabat – Morocco’s national futsal team will face Bosnia and Herzegovina in two friendly matches this month as part of its preparations for the 2026 Futsal Africa Cup of Nations.
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation announced that the first match will take place on Thursday, August 13, followed by a second meeting on Saturday, August 15.
Both fixtures will begin at 7 p.m. at the Mohammed VI Football Complex near Rabat.
The two matches form part of the technical staff’s program to improve the squad’s physical readiness, strengthen coordination between the players and assess their condition before the continental tournament.
Facing European opposition will also allow Morocco to test different tactical options and player combinations as the team prepares to defend its African title on home soil.
The federation has not yet announced the squad for the two friendlies.
Morocco preparing to defend continental crown
Morocco will enter the 2026 Futsal Africa Cup of Nations as both host nation and defending champion.
CAF confirmed that Morocco qualified automatically for the final tournament, while seven other national teams were required to secure their places through two-legged qualifying ties. A total of eight teams are expected to compete in the finals.
The Atlas Lions have won the past three editions of the continental competition.
Under coach Hicham Dguig, Morocco secured its third consecutive title in April 2024 after defeating Angola 5-1 in the final in Rabat. Soufiane Borite, Idriss Raiss El Fenni, Soufiane El Mesrar, Anas El Ayyane and Bilal Bakkali scored in the victory.
That triumph allowed Morocco to draw level with Egypt on three Futsal AFCON titles and confirmed the country’s position among Africa’s leading futsal nations.
The Bosnia and Herzegovina friendlies are therefore expected to serve as an important evaluation period for Dguig and his staff, particularly as competition for places increases ahead of the final tournament.
CAF’s published 2026 competitions calendar lists Morocco as the host of the Futsal Africa Cup of Nations, although the tournament dates remained marked as subject to confirmation in the latest available version.
Morocco will continue its preparations after the two August friendlies, with further training camps and international matches likely to be arranged before the continental competition begins.
