The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will hold a virtual meeting of its Executive Committee on Thursday under the leadership of CAF President Patrice Motsepe, with members set to discuss a wide-ranging agenda covering major competitions, governance, financial matters, and the future direction of African football.

Rabat – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will hold a virtual meeting of its Executive Committee on Thursday, with members set to discuss a wide-ranging agenda covering major competitions, governance, financial matters, and the future direction of African football.

Updates on the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will be among the meeting’s key talking points. CAF officials are also expected to review progress on the continental body’s flagship interclub competitions, including the CAF Champions League, the CAF Confederation Cup, and the CAF Super Cup ahead of the 2026-2027 season.

Youth and women’s football development will also feature prominently on the agenda. The Executive Committee is expected to discuss preparations for the 2027 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2027 U-20 AFCON, both scheduled to take place in Ghana.

In addition, members will review plans for the 2027 U-17 AFCON and the inaugural U-17 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, alongside the continued growth of the CAF Women’s Champions League and Africa’s participation in the 2026 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Strategic and institutional matters

Beyond competitions, CAF will examine several strategic and institutional matters. These include preparations for the 2026 CAF Awards in Nigeria, the ongoing bidding process for the 2028, 2032, and 2036 AFCON tournaments, and the approval of the competition format for the African Nations League, which is planned for 2029, 2031, and 2033.

Financial and governance issues are also expected to receive significant attention during the meeting. The Executive Committee will discuss the aftermath of FIFA’s withdrawn Forward Enterprise project, which has continued to generate debate across the global football community despite its cancellation. CAF is also expected to consider expanding development funding for its member associations.

Committee members will additionally review proposed adjustments to daily allowances for referees, match officials, VAR operators, and match commissioners. Reports from CAF’s judicial bodies, including the Appeal Board and the Disciplinary Board, are also on the agenda.

The meeting comes as CAF continues to reshape its competitions and governance structure while preparing for a busy calendar that includes continental tournaments, youth development initiatives, and long-term reforms aimed at strengthening football across Africa.
