The Times: Infantino Offers Morocco 2030 World Cup Final in Return for Support

Gianni Infantino, FIFA President

Rabat – FIFA President Gianni Infantino has reportedly offered Morocco the right to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup final in exchange for continued political support as he faces growing pressure over his leadership, The Times reported today.

The report claims Infantino promised Morocco the tournament’s showpiece match at the under-construction Hassan II Stadium in Casablanca, which is expected to become the world’s largest football stadium with a capacity of around 115,000 spectators.

Morocco has remained one of Infantino’s closest allies during his time as FIFA president, as the Swiss official is relying on Rabat’s backing as opposition to his leadership grows following a series of controversial decisions.

The newspaper added that Infantino has been holding meetings in Rabat in an effort to secure support from football associations ahead of the 2027 FIFA presidential election.

Several federations and football officials have in recent weeks distanced themselves from his leadership, including UEFA, the English FA, and the Welsh FA.

Neither FIFA nor the Royal Moroccan Football Federation has publicly commented on The Times’s report.

Morocco has accelerated preparations for the 2030 World Cup by expanding its sports infrastructure, including the construction of the Hassan II Stadium near Casablanca.

The country will jointly stage the tournament with Spain and Portugal, while Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay will each host one centenary match to mark the competition’s 100th anniversary.
