Casablanca – FIFA has apologized for mistakes in the handling of its proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) project, confirming the initiative has been withdrawn following an emergency meeting held in Rabat.
In a statement released after the meeting, FIFA said its Secretary General and members of the FIFA Management Board reaffirmed their “full support” for President Gianni Infantino, while the president reiterated his backing for the FIFA administration.
The governing body acknowledged that the process surrounding the FFE proposal, which triggered criticism from member associations after details emerged in the media, had been mishandled.
According to FIFA, officials agreed that the proposal should have been managed differently and admitted it was never the intention for the FIFA Council or the organization’s 211 member associations to feel excluded from the decision-making process.
The statement also recognized that additional errors were made after the proposal was leaked to the media.
FIFA said a separate letter sent to the FIFA Council and member associations included a formal apology for those mistakes, alongside a commitment to ensure similar issues do not occur again. The organization added that it will conduct a review of the process, with the findings set to be presented at the next scheduled FIFA Council meeting.
The FFE proposal has now been officially abandoned.
