Rabat – Morocco will introduce a phased return to schools for the 2026-2027 academic year, with education staff and students returning on different dates before regular classes officially begin on September 7.
The Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports said the new school year will follow the timetable set out in Ministerial Order No. 047.26, issued on July 3, 2026.
Administrative, inspection, educational supervision and education administration staff are scheduled to return to their workplaces on September 1 to complete the formal procedures marking the resumption of duties.
Teachers and teacher-researchers in education and training will return the following day, September 2, to complete the same administrative procedures.
Students will then return progressively over three days, according to their grade levels.
On September 3, schools will welcome preschool children, first- and second-year primary pupils, first-year middle school students and students in the common core years of high school.
The following day, September 4, will be the turn of third- and fourth-year primary pupils, second-year middle school students and first-year baccalaureate students.
The final group will return on September 5, comprising fifth- and sixth-year primary pupils, third-year middle school students and second-year baccalaureate students.
Classes officially begin September 7
Regular classes for all educational cycles and grade levels will officially and mandatorily begin on September 7.
Classes under Morocco’s non-formal education programs and the Second Chance program will start later, on October 5.
The ministry also called on education and administrative staff, families and other partners to work together to ensure a smooth start to the school year and protect the time allocated for teaching and learning.
