Rabat – FC Barcelona have rejected an opening offer of approximately $46 million from Paris Saint-Germain for Spanish forward Ferran Torres, according to AFP.
The same source confirmed that negotiations between Barcelona and PSG are continuing, meaning a transfer remains possible despite the rejection of the first proposal. Neither club has officially announced an agreement.
PSG’s interest has advanced quickly in recent days. L’Équipe reported on Saturday that Torres had reached an agreement with the Parisian club over a five-year contract and informed Barcelona of his desire to make the move.
The two clubs must now agree on a transfer fee before any deal can be completed.
A move to Paris would reunite the 26-year-old with Luis Enrique, who coached him with the Spanish national team. The former Barcelona coach has been in charge of PSG since July 2023 and remains the club’s head coach.
World Cup winner enters final contract year
Torres’ future has attracted increased attention following Spain’s victory at the 2026 World Cup.
The Barcelona forward scored the only goal of the final against Argentina, striking in the 106th minute to secure a 1-0 extra-time victory and Spain’s second world title. FIFA also named him player of the match.
His performances have strengthened his position entering a summer in which he has only one year remaining on his Barcelona contract. The agreement he signed when joining the Catalan club from Manchester City in December 2021 runs until June 30, 2027.
Asked about his future during a recent promotional trip to the United States, Torres stopped short of committing himself to Barcelona, saying that while he remained under contract, circumstances in football could change.
His club form has also improved considerably under Hansi Flick. Torres scored 19 goals during the 2024-2025 campaign despite starting only 19 of his 45 appearances, frequently providing an attacking option from the bench or replacing Robert Lewandowski through the middle.
He followed that with 21 goals in 49 appearances across all competitions in 2025-2026, including 16 in La Liga, bringing his club total to 40 over the past two seasons.
Barcelona originally signed Torres from Manchester City in a deal worth more than €55 million, equivalent to approximately $63 million at the current exchange rate. He had previously developed at Valencia before moving to England in 2020.
PSG must now decide whether to return with an improved proposal. Torres has reportedly given the French club the green light, but until Barcelona accept an offer, he remains part of Flick’s squad for the 2026-2027 season.
