Cadi Ayyad recorded an Impact rank of 2,032, an Openness rank of 1,945, and an Excellence rank of 1,110 in the July edition

Rabat – Cadi Ayyad University in Marrakech has ranked first in Morocco and the Maghreb in the July 2026 edition of the Webometrics Ranking, placing it among the leading higher education institutions in the country and the region.

The university ranked 1,505th globally out of more than 32,000 institutions assessed, according to the latest Webometrics data. It also ranked 29th among universities in Africa.

Webometrics evaluates universities based largely on their presence and performance on the web. Its assessment considers three main areas, including the visibility and impact of a university’s digital resources, the openness of its scientific production, and the research impact of its publications.

Cadi Ayyad recorded an Impact rank of 2,032, an Openness rank of 1,945, and an Excellence rank of 1,110 in the July edition. These indicators contributed to its overall position of 1,505 worldwide.

The ranking reflects the growing importance of universities’ digital presence and the accessibility of academic research. Rather than measuring only traditional academic indicators, Webometrics looks at how universities make knowledge and research available and visible online.

The Marrakech-based university was followed nationally by Mohammed V University of Rabat, which ranked second in Morocco and 1,850th globally. Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) ranked third nationally and 1,974th worldwide.

The next positions were held by Ibn Zohr University in Beni Mellal (2,320th globally), Ibn Tofail University in Kenitra (2,322nd globally), and Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah University in Fez (2,421st globally).

Other universities in the Moroccan top 10 include Hassan II University in Casablanca, Sultan Moulay Slimane University in Beni Mellal, and Chouaib Eddoukali University in El Jadida.

Cadi Ayyad’s latest Webometrics result adds to a series of strong performances in international rankings this year. These include its first-place position among Moroccan universities in the UniRank ranking, second-place national positions in the CWUR and QS Sustainability rankings, and its position among the top 5.3% of universities worldwide in the CWUR assessment.
