Rabat– Casablanca police have rejected claims circulating on social media that a sub-Saharan African migrant had sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl inside a cemetery.
The claims were linked to a video circulated online on Friday, August 14, showing a man and a young woman inside a cemetery. The footage was accompanied by written and audio commentary alleging that the man was a sub-Saharan migrant who had lured a 12-year-old girl into the cemetery with the intention of sexually assaulting her.
Police investigations identified the woman shown in the footage and established that she is 21 years old, not a minor. Authorities also said she was arrested while in possession of an anesthetic patch.
Further investigations found that the woman had not been sexually assaulted. Police said she was at the cemetery at the time the video was recorded for the purpose of consuming drugs.
The suspect has been placed in police custody as part of the judicial investigation being conducted by the Ain Sebaa-Hay Mohammadi police district in Casablanca under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office.
The investigation is aimed at establishing the full circumstances and background of the case and identifying any criminal acts connected to it.
