US President Donald Trump

Agadir – US President Donald Trump has threatened to bomb Oman if the Gulf country interferes with Washington’s efforts to reach a deal with Iran, escalating tensions with a longtime US partner that has played a key mediation role between the two sides.

“If Oman gets in the way, we’ll bomb the shit out of them,” Trump told Fox News today, referring to ongoing discussions over the Strait of Hormuz.

The remarks came as efforts to end the nearly six-month-old US-Israeli war with Iran showed little sign of progress. A 60-day period established under a June memorandum between Washington and Tehran expired on Monday without a broader agreement.

Despite the lack of a breakthrough, Trump said he was “not in a hurry” to reach a deal and declined to set another deadline for negotiations. He also called on Iran to “put up the white flag of surrender,” while reiterating that preventing Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon remains his main objective.

Oman caught in Strait of Hormuz dispute

Trump’s latest threat centers on the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route whose disruption has severely affected maritime traffic during the war.

Iran and Oman have been negotiating arrangements for navigation through the waterway. Iran’s Foreign Ministry said Monday that discussions with Oman were continuing, while the two countries were working toward a joint declaration on managing shipping through the strait.

Oman has traditionally maintained close ties with Washington while also acting as an important intermediary between the US and Iran. Its diplomatic role has included facilitating indirect contacts between the two countries.

Trump previously threatened Oman in May, warning that he could “blow up” the country if it failed to “behave” over the Strait of Hormuz. His latest comments therefore mark a renewed escalation in his rhetoric toward the Gulf ally.

The president has also recently threatened to declare the Strait of Hormuz US territory, further intensifying the dispute over control and access to the strategic waterway.
