Rabat – Morocco has begun distributing notices to voters ahead of the September 23 legislative elections, the Interior Ministry said.

Local administrative authorities will deliver the notices from Monday, August 24, through 6 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22, the day before the vote.

The notice will tell each voter where to find their assigned polling station. It will also remind voters of the election date and the opening and closing times for voting.

However, voters do not need the notice to cast their ballots. The National Electronic Identity Card (CNIE) remains the only official document required to prove a voter’s identity at the polling station.

The September 23 election will choose members of Morocco’s House of Representatives.

Voting by proxy for Moroccans abroad

The Interior Ministry also opened an online platform on Monday for Moroccan voters living outside the country to arrange voting by proxy.

Under Morocco’s electoral law, eligible Moroccan voters living abroad can authorize another registered voter in Morocco to vote on their behalf.

The online platform will remain open until noon on September 22. Voters living abroad can use www.elections.ma or www.listeselectorales.ma to complete the process.

They must enter their own information and the details of the voter they choose to represent them. They must then verify the information and confirm that they completed the proxy request themselves and that the information provided is accurate.

After completing the proxy request, voters living abroad must download a copy and send it to their chosen representative either by email or regular mail.

The representative must be registered on Morocco’s general electoral rolls in any municipality or district in the country.

The Interior Ministry said the measures aim to help voters identify their polling stations and facilitate voting for Moroccans living abroad ahead of the September 23 legislative elections.
