Rabat – Algerian goalkeeper Gaya Merbah has officially signed with Botola Pro club Hassania Agadir. The free transfer marks his third professional stint in the Moroccan domestic league.
According to Africafoot, the two parties finalized the agreement on August 26. Merbah secured the move following the mutual termination of his previous contract.
Hassania Agadir is actively recruiting experienced players to improve its competitiveness for the upcoming season. The club management identified the veteran goalkeeper as a primary target to secure its defense.
Merbah brings extensive experience from top-flight football in both Morocco and Algeria. He previously played for prominent Algerian clubs, including NA Hussein Dey, CR Belouizdad, and JS Kabylie.
His initial arrival in Morocco occurred in 2021 when he joined Raja Club Athletic. He later transitioned to Ittihad of Tanger, where he solidified his professional reputation.
During the 2023/2024 Botola Pro season, he participated in 24 league matches for the northern squad. His consistent performances in goal quickly caught the attention of several regional football scouts.
Last season, Algerian goalkeeper Gaya Merbah enjoyed a highly active campaign with JS Kabylie. The athlete played 22 matches across all competitions before deciding to return to Morocco.
This total included 19 appearances in the Algerian domestic league. Furthermore, he played three matches in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League. He accumulated 1,980 minutes of playing time during this recent competitive period.
The goalkeeper successfully maintained five clean sheets for his former Algerian team last year. Three of these shutouts occurred in the league, while two were achieved during continental competition.
Football valuation platform Transfermarkt currently estimates his market value at €250,000 (MAD 2.7 million). This reasonable valuation made him an attractive acquisition for Hassania Agadir in the current transfer window.
Merbah will soon join his new teammates to begin preparations for the upcoming Botola Pro season. Hassania Agadir aims to improve its standing after a challenging previous campaign.
