Real Madrid will compete in the new Champions League format, which features 36 teams in one league table. Each team will play eight matches against eight different opponents, with four games at home and four away.
The Spanish giants will aim to finish among the top eight teams in the league phase to secure direct qualification for the Round of 16 and avoid the knockout play-offs.

Real Madrid’s Champions League ambitions
Real Madrid enter the new European campaign with high expectations as they look to compete for another Champions League title.
The club will also begin the season under the management of José Mourinho, who has returned to the Santiago Bernabéu.
Finishing in the top eight will be the club’s first objective during the league phase, as it would guarantee a direct place in the Round of 16.
However, finishing between ninth and 24th would send Real Madrid into the knockout play-offs, while teams finishing below 24th would be eliminated from the competition.
Road to the Champions League final
The knockout play-offs are scheduled for February 2027, followed by the Round of 16 in March.
The quarter-finals will take place in April, while the semi-finals will be played across April and May.
The 2026-27 Champions League campaign will conclude with the final on June 5, 2027, at the Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid.
With the final taking place in the Spanish capital, Real Madrid will have an additional incentive to make a deep run in Europe and potentially compete for the trophy on home soil.
