Rabat – Former Morocco national team coach Walid Regragui has moved into television after joining French broadcaster Canal+ as a football consultant, according to Foot Mercato.
The 50-year-old coach joins Canal+ after leading the Moroccan national team from 2022 until his departure in 2026. After several years on the touchline, Regragui will now use his coaching experience and tactical knowledge in a different role, analyzing matches for television audiences.
Foot Mercato reported Wednesday that Canal+ announced Regragui’s arrival during its back-to-school conference. L’Équipe also confirmed the appointment, reporting that the former Morocco coach will feature in the channel’s coverage of European football and the Premier League.
Regragui introduced at Canal+’s new studio
Canal+ presented Regragui as one of its new consultants during its annual back-to-school conference.
According to L’Équipe, the announcement took place at the broadcaster’s new “Michel Platini” studio, which is located in the hall of Canal+’s headquarters.
Regragui is one of several new additions to the channel’s football coverage. Former France international midfielder Inès Jaurena, 35, has also joined Canal+ as a consultant.
Jaurena earned four caps for France during her playing career. She played in the United States and represented several French clubs, including Paris FC, Lyon and Bordeaux, before ending her career with Fleury in the spring.
L’Équipe reported that Jaurena will contribute to Canal+’s coverage of European competitions, the Premier League and the Arkema Première Ligue.
A coaching perspective behind the microphone
Regragui’s role will focus mainly on European football evenings and Premier League matchdays, according to L’Équipe.
His experience as a head coach gives him a different perspective from traditional television pundits. He will be able to discuss tactical choices, team organization, player performances and the decisions made during matches from the perspective of someone who has managed at the highest level.
The move also allows Regragui to remain closely involved in football following his departure from the Morocco national team.
Instead of moving away from the sport, the Moroccan coach is taking on a new role in which his experience on the touchline can inform his analysis in the studio.

Regragui spent four years at the helm of Morocco, taking charge of the Atlas Lions in 2022.
His tenure made him one of the most prominent figures in Moroccan football. His time with the national team included major international campaigns and placed him at the center of Morocco’s ambitions on the global stage.

The Moroccan joins an established group of football consultants at Canal+, including Laure Boulleau, Samir Nasri, Olivier Dacourt, David Ginola, Aline Riera, Sidney Govou, Christophe Jallet and Jessica Houara, according to L’Équipe.
His arrival adds a former national team coach to a lineup that already includes several former international players and experienced football personalities.
The appointment could also attract particular attention from Moroccan and African football fans who followed Regragui during his time with the Atlas Lions.
For Regragui, the move marks the beginning of a new professional chapter while keeping him firmly connected to the game.
