Rabat – Spanish Football Federation President Rafael Louzán has dismissed reports suggesting that Spain could withdraw from hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup if Morocco is awarded the tournament’s final.
Speaking to Spanish radio station Cadena COPE, Louzán said there was no basis for claims that Spain could pull out of the joint hosting project. He stressed that the tournament is governed by formal agreements signed by the parties involved.
These agreements include Spain, Portugal, Morocco, FIFA, and the Spanish government, according to the official source.
Louzán also stressed that he does not have the authority to decide which stadium will host the 2030 World Cup final.
He said the issue should have been addressed when Spain, Portugal, and Morocco were awarded the right to organize the tournament.
The comments come amid growing debate over the venue for the most important match of the 2030 World Cup.
Morocco is pushing to host the final at the Hassan II Stadium in Benslimane, a major stadium project that is being developed ahead of the tournament.
Spain, meanwhile, has the Santiago Bernabéu among its potential venues for the final.
The choice of the final venue has become one of the main points of discussion surrounding the joint World Cup. While no final decision has been announced, the issue has sparked reports about differences between the co-hosting countries.
Louzán called for the matter to be viewed through the existing agreements and commitments rather than through emotional or national considerations.
His remarks appear to reduce speculation over a possible Spanish withdrawal from the 2030 World Cup hosting project.
The tournament will be jointly hosted by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal, making it the first World Cup to be organized across the three countries.
The final venue, however, remains unresolved, leaving the Hassan II Stadium and Santiago Bernabéu at the center of the discussion over where the tournament’s biggest game will be played.
For now, the issue is increasingly becoming a matter of negotiations between the co-hosts and the relevant football authorities rather than a decision that can be made by one federation alone.
