Rabat – Egypt’s Al Ahly confirmed that Moroccan attacker Achraf Bencharki experienced discomfort caused by Achilles tendon inflammation.
The technical staff opted to keep him out of collective training while he undergoes treatment.
The Egyptian giants provided an official update on the Moroccan forward’s condition ahead of Sunday’s practice .
“Dr. Ahmed Jaballah, head of the first team’s medical staff, confirmed that team player Achraf Bencharki complained of pain resulting from Achilles tendon inflammation,” the club stated.
“The technical staff preferred to grant him a rest from participating in collective training, while he undergoes treatment sessions to prepare him before returning to group training later,” they added.
The 32-year-old player officially joined Al Ahly in January 2025, on a free transfer after mutually terminating his contract with Qatari club Al Rayyan.
The Moroccan player arrived in Cairo, passed his medical examinations, and signed a two-and-a-half-year contract keeping him at the club through June 2027.
His arrival reinforced Al Ahly’s attack during the January transfer window, reuniting him with Egyptian football after his previous spell with rivals Zamalek.
During the 2025/26 season with Al Ahly, Bencharki scored six goals and provided nine assists across 37 appearances in all competitions.
In domestic play, the Moroccan forward featured in 20 Egyptian Premier League matches, directly contributing to 12 goals as one of the team’s key offensive playmakers.
The injury comes at a critical time for Al Ahly ahead of their highly anticipated showdown against rivals Zamalek.
The sixth-round Egyptian Premier League match is scheduled for Sunday, October 11, at the Cairo International Stadium.
