Rabat – Real Madrid confirmed today that central defender Raul Asencio is set to undergo surgery on his right leg after suffering a stress fracture in his tibia.
The club revealed that surgery was necessary to permanently resolve the issue, effectively ruling the 23-year-old out of action for the coming months.
“Our player Raúl Asencio will undergo surgery tomorrow due to a stress fracture in the tibia of his right leg,” the club announced.
The operation is scheduled for Thursday, with Spanish outlets reporting an expected recovery timeline of two to four months if there are no complications.
A successful procedure would see the defender return in time for the final stretch of the season, though the club is expected to take a cautious approach with his rehabilitation.
The Canary Islands defender has endured a frustrating campaign marred by physical setbacks, having missed Real Madrid’s first five matchday squads of the season.
His ongoing fitness struggles ultimately prompted the decision to pursue surgical intervention rather than continuing conservative treatment.
Despite finishing last season with 34 appearances across all competitions, the defender saw his role diminish in the closing stages of the campaign.
