Rabat – Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani congratulated Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri on her appointment as Morocco’s Head of Government in a phone call today.
Qatari news agency QNA said the Qatari official also wished El Mansouri success in serving Moroccan people’s interests.
During the call, the two officials also discussed bilateral ties, exploring ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
“They also exchanged vows on a number of issues of mutual interest.”
The call is the first international call from El Mansouri in her capacity as Head of Government.
King Mohammed VI appointed El Mansouri on Tuesday this week. The appointment came after the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), of which El Mansouri is the coordinator of its collective leadership, won Morocco’s legislative elections with 97 seats.
The appointment makes El Mansouri the first-ever Moroccan woman to take the helm as head of government.
With the appointment, the monarch tasked El Mansouri with forming the new government, within the provisions of article 47 of the Constitution. The head of government is currently holding a series of consultations with other political leaders in an effort to form a government coalition.
Qatar’s PM’s call comes as Rabat and Doha continue to strengthen bilateral relations at all levels. Qatar is among the countries that continue to support Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its southern provinces.
Relations between the two countries are marked by the exchange of visits, with the two countries committed to strengthening cooperation at all levels, including trade and defense.
Last year, the two countries signed a defense agreement to strengthen military cooperation.
A Qatari military delegation also completed a training program in Morocco as part of the commitment to strengthen defense ties through specialized legal advisory courses and institutional visits.
