Rabat – Novak Djokovic claimed the 102nd title of his career on Tuesday in Beijing after Australian ninth-ranked Alex de Minaur retired due to injury during the final.
The 39-year-old Serbian won the opening set 7-6 in a tiebreak before De Minaur was forced to withdraw in the second set.
The victory moved Djokovic to within one title of Roger Federer’s career tally of 103. He is also six titles behind Jimmy Connors’ record of 109 ATP titles.
Djokovic’s triumph marked his seventh Beijing title in seven appearances at the tournament. It was also his first title in the Chinese capital since 2015.
The Serbian entered the tournament as the world No. 11 and had not won a title since the Athens ATP 250 event in November 2025.
Despite the long wait for a trophy, Djokovic maintained his perfect record in Beijing. He now has 34 victories from 34 matches at the tournament.
His path to the final also included an unusual incident in Monday’s semifinal against Daniil Medvedev. The Russian was disqualified in the second set after a ball he struck with his racket hit a spectator.
Djokovic’s latest title adds another milestone to an already historic career. With 24 Grand Slam singles titles and now 102 career trophies, the Serbian is closing in on Federer’s mark while continuing his pursuit of Connors’ all-time record.
